Finally, I am time to think about and update my blog entry. Hmm. Many events have happened in the past few months. My chemistry mid term test is like entering into the battlefield without any arms and preparations. A few days before the test, there are several additional exercises provided by the chemistry department and all the questions are thermodynamics questions. In addition, the questions in the additional exercises are very difficult and it has taken around two to four days to comprehend the solutions given. These sets of exercises are the first time that I understand through looking at its solutions. Besides, the solutions are not detailed enough. One has to browse through the internet to fill up other question marks in one’s mind. Coming back to the provision of additional exercises, it seems to have an implied assumption on everyone’s mind that thermodynamics will be emphasized during the mid term test. In the end, the opposite happens. Not a single thermodynamics calculation question comes out during the test. Electrochemistry seems to be the emphasized topic for this mid term. However, there are no practice questions on this chapter for everybody to attempt and learn more. Sigh!! In the end, I have to use my imagination to attempt the calculation questions like coating chromium atoms onto a cylinder.
Seeing this chemistry mid term test as a unprecedented university test in my life, it sort of starts a trend of how the mid term tests of other subjects will be like. I will have to study hard and stop making assumptions.
Anyway, I went for an Inter-Coastal Cleanup event organized at Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve. It’s great, exhausting tiring but I enjoy doing some volunteer work for the nature. The reserve still remain relatively the same ever since my last visit last year. I mainly help in transporting the huge masses of rubbish out of the reserve. The transportation serves more like an endurance training for me, to endure the pain at my hands and how long I can hold out. I am awed by the diversity of rubbish found there. The types of rubbish include the “usual stuffs” and other “unbelievable stuffs” like rubber tyres, oil drums, refrigerator, glass bottles, badminton shuttlecocks. Those items make me ruminate about how they come about. For example, regarding about rubber car tyres, are cars actually dumped into the seas? Do people throw away their refrigerators into the oceans or does the waste disposal company do it? Recently, there is a lot of hype about saving gaia, saving our planet, saving the earth. Perhaps it is true that there is global warming and climate change. Perhaps it is true that in 99 months, the earth will reach a tipping point when global warming will become an irreversible process. However, I think that we should keep the environment the way it is like keeping our home clean though for myself, my home may look quite messy but at the very least, I don’t anyhow throw litter on the floor.
I hope to change myself for the better. Perhaps if I see rubbish at the public places one day, I will pick it up and throw it to the rubbish bin. That can be a staring point to greater things like reducing wastage.

A photo shot by an unknown person when I was holding on to the wheelbarrow. This was my first time in my entire life working as a "construction worker" utilising a wheelbarrow to transport heavy things. I was probably too tired to notice that anybody was taking a photo of me.
