Fantasy route amendments

Click on the image to view the route details.
New fantasy route service 126 from Ang Mo Kio to Boon Lay.
This service 126 serves to act like the role of service 151, connecting NTU to other parts of Singapore.

However, when service 126 is introduced, the purpose of connecting Ang Mo Kio to Boon Lay is met, hence, service 104 is withdrawn and service 52 is reintroduced which the route is the same as Transitlink Bus Guide 2008.

Do and don'ts of recycling

It is preferable that the thing is rinsed with water before it should be recycled and things containing oil stains such as used utensils shouldn't be recycled.

Lol. In primary school, I am used to be taught about the 3Rs, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. So, I thought that recycling is a good thing and everything should be recycled as far as possible. However, until I have joined NUSSU Save, I have learnt more things regarding the don'ts of recycling. This simple poster shown above are some information about the dos and don'ts of recycling though it is not made in Singapore.

The topic on my Critical Thinking and Writing is on the environment. This has prompted me to ruminate about the reasons why people don't recycle as much in Singapore as in other European countries according to one of the groups which is doing about recycling. One of the reasons is due to the lack of awareness about the full details of recycling. Paper can be recycled but are used paper plates recycable? Plastic bottles are recycable but are disposable plastic cups recycable?

Hope to share this info to everyone more about recycling especially to those that frequently recycle. It is not that we shouldn't recycle from then on, it is that we should take note of the finer details in recycling so that things are really "recycled".

And finally, Good luck to the tests coming up and good health too.

Withdrawal and amendments of Niteowl and Cityshopper Bus services.

For the Niteowls, 1N and 6N's route does not change with effect from 31st October 2008. 2N to 5N's route have been changed while 7N and 8N's route have been withdrawn. In addition, the operating times of the Niteowls have been changed to 12am to 2am.

For the Cityshopper Services, service 576 have been withdrawn with effect from 31st October 2008. In addition, the operating times of the Cityshopper services have been changed to 1200 to 1630 hrs on weekdays and 1000 to 2100 hrs on weekends and public holidays. They operate as a one-directional service from 1000 to 1200 hrs and as a bi-directional service from 1200 hrs onwards.

For more details, click on the posters or visit SBS Transit official website.

In my opinion, Cityshopper Bus services are introduced as an initiative to attract more consumers to utilise public transport by providing direct and express links from HDB Heartlands to the city. However, the demand of the cityshopper services cause them to be rather unprofitable and hence some amendments are to be made. In my opinion, perhaps the fares for these type of services can be reduced to the same as express services except that standing is now allowed. This will certainly allure more people to utilise public transport.
Regarding about the amendments of Niteowls, I will certainly choose SMRT Nightriders over SBST Niteowls becuase of their longer operating hours and the routes that they ply.

New hobby dying soon.

Lol. It's only a week that I have acquired the new hobby and now, I am beginning to lose interest of it. First and foremost, it is very troublesome to collect data. I fell asleep while collecting data when boarding other services except for 147 since there were a lot of commuters boarding this service.

Anyway, the pressure is building up and is having a cumulative effect on me. Last week, my immune system is busy fighting with lots of cold viruses and the bactria at my throat. Perhaps I do not have sufficient sleep which has probably resulted to me falling ill. Project deadlines are approaching and my experimental results for all my chemistry experiments are all screwed up for some reason. It seems like university life is not as good as it seems. I always have this theory in my mind. The things/events that I am really yearning for doesn't seem as good as what I am expecting to be. Perhaps I should keep an open mind and take things as it comes.

Time passes in a blink of an eye. It passes as if a neutralisation reaction between an acid and a base has taken place, fast, very rapid and unknowingly. Final year exams are approaching and I have not started revising or even prepared for it. Perhaps, as mentioned earlier, I should take things as it comes and do my best instead of feeling stressed up.

New hobby acquired.

This bus route interest has led to many other interests relating to it. It gradually spurs me to investigate the demand patterns of several bus services. This hobby serves as a documentary evidence to indicate the level of demand for a bus service.

For this hobby, I will be measuring the demand for a bus service by calculating the number of people onboard the bus when passing by several bus stops over a trip. This number will be recorded and averaged by the number of trips that I have made passing by this bus stop. After that, it will be tabulated of in a graph of number of people against fare stage of the service. However, one thing to note is that this is not a good indicator to measure profitability of the bus service since costs are different for people to travel for a further distance and hence it can't be measured by the number of people onboard the bus alone.

Withdrawal of fantasy route 140

Service 140 will be withdrawn with effect from 6th October 2008, the same day as fantasy route 86 is amended. Alternative directions have been written in the poster. Click on the poster to view the enlarged version.

Fantasy Route 86

Click on the image to view the enlarged version.

This is a small fantasy route change to service 86. It now plies Sengkang East Ctrl instead of Sengkang East Rd for the purpose of improving links at Sengkang East Ctrl.

So, in my fantasy world, 17, 43 and 86 (with effect from 6th Oct 08) ply Sengkang East Ctrl.

Mid Term Tests over.

Finally, the mid term tests are all over. The recess break is really a time for me to revise my past few concepts that has been taught swiftly by the lecturers. Even with revising, the questions though all MCQ, are rather "unique" and difficult. In some questions, it takes me quite a while to figure out the approach in dealing the problems. By then, precious time has been lost. For others, I am simply stunned because I have totally no idea on how to approach this question. Sigh!! The results will be out in around two weeks time. I hope that I can score reasonably well.

Just a thought

Last Monday, the turtle has a gathering with the bears. Its shell has been changed after 4 years of my life. The old big bag is cleaned up after it has accompanied me for about 4 years. We have some ramen and rice and as usual, this is my first time dining in that restaurant which I have forgotten its name. I was pondering a maths question at that point in time and this maths question dawned upon me once again yesterday when I was doing my past year physics mid term test paper. The ambience was great and everyone was having a good time. Many memories flashed inside my head when all of us reminiscence the good times we had during our junior college days and how we have changed ourselves after a couple of years. It is good to know that everybody is doing great in their respective arena. Some of them even have extraordinary achievements while I am still pursuing my hobby and the interests that I still possess.

The above part sounds like writing an essay which I have not written for years. That’s part of the reason why I have started a blog. When the topic of teachers is discussed, I kinda miss their teachings. In JC, our teachers teach us passionately and answer to our endless questions. It is a bit too late now since Teachers Day is already over but I will like to thank Ms. Chan, our GP teacher, Ms. Casey Goh / Mr. Jonathon Seow , my maths teachers, Mdm Tay my physics teacher and Ms Wendy Koh, my chem. Teacher. And lastly, Mrs. Alice Teo, my Chinese teacher who has scolded me several times for writing OOPs (Out Of Points) essays. However, she helped me to by teaching me skills to enhance my essays and to think critically. Of course, I also have my secondary school teachers to thank too for building up my maths, chemistry and physics foundations. Suddenly, a “native thought” flashes past in my mind. Perhaps, in my next life, I hope that my set of teachers will remain the same for secondary/tertiary/university education so that I don’t have to thank so many teachers.

University is a great place to know the people of the opposite sex. Sadly, I have grouped in a way that there are about 2 females in my tutorial groups. And one of them is my cousin’s classmate. Let’s follow the age old saying. Let nature take its course. In addition, there are mid term tests waiting for me at 29th and 30th September 2008 and more tests ahead in my life.
Change is inevitable. We have transformed ever since we are born by those who have brought us up like our parents / guardians and of course those who have taught us and imparted us with their knowledge and experience. It’s good to remember them once a while as they are the ones that mould us. In addition, we will continue to change and transform for the better as we venture into the years ahead.

Update

Finally, I am time to think about and update my blog entry. Hmm. Many events have happened in the past few months. My chemistry mid term test is like entering into the battlefield without any arms and preparations. A few days before the test, there are several additional exercises provided by the chemistry department and all the questions are thermodynamics questions. In addition, the questions in the additional exercises are very difficult and it has taken around two to four days to comprehend the solutions given. These sets of exercises are the first time that I understand through looking at its solutions. Besides, the solutions are not detailed enough. One has to browse through the internet to fill up other question marks in one’s mind. Coming back to the provision of additional exercises, it seems to have an implied assumption on everyone’s mind that thermodynamics will be emphasized during the mid term test. In the end, the opposite happens. Not a single thermodynamics calculation question comes out during the test. Electrochemistry seems to be the emphasized topic for this mid term. However, there are no practice questions on this chapter for everybody to attempt and learn more. Sigh!! In the end, I have to use my imagination to attempt the calculation questions like coating chromium atoms onto a cylinder.

Seeing this chemistry mid term test as a unprecedented university test in my life, it sort of starts a trend of how the mid term tests of other subjects will be like. I will have to study hard and stop making assumptions.

Anyway, I went for an Inter-Coastal Cleanup event organized at Sungei Buloh Wetlands Reserve. It’s great, exhausting tiring but I enjoy doing some volunteer work for the nature. The reserve still remain relatively the same ever since my last visit last year. I mainly help in transporting the huge masses of rubbish out of the reserve. The transportation serves more like an endurance training for me, to endure the pain at my hands and how long I can hold out. I am awed by the diversity of rubbish found there. The types of rubbish include the “usual stuffs” and other “unbelievable stuffs” like rubber tyres, oil drums, refrigerator, glass bottles, badminton shuttlecocks. Those items make me ruminate about how they come about. For example, regarding about rubber car tyres, are cars actually dumped into the seas? Do people throw away their refrigerators into the oceans or does the waste disposal company do it? Recently, there is a lot of hype about saving gaia, saving our planet, saving the earth. Perhaps it is true that there is global warming and climate change. Perhaps it is true that in 99 months, the earth will reach a tipping point when global warming will become an irreversible process. However, I think that we should keep the environment the way it is like keeping our home clean though for myself, my home may look quite messy but at the very least, I don’t anyhow throw litter on the floor.

I hope to change myself for the better. Perhaps if I see rubbish at the public places one day, I will pick it up and throw it to the rubbish bin. That can be a staring point to greater things like reducing wastage.

A photo shot by an unknown person when I was holding on to the wheelbarrow. This was my first time in my entire life working as a "construction worker" utilising a wheelbarrow to transport heavy things. I was probably too tired to notice that anybody was taking a photo of me.

Fare Revision with effect from 1st October 2008

The above links are taken from a fellow bus fan (Tamago) uploaded pictures.

Public transport fares are going to increase by 4 cents for ezlink card users and 10 cents for commuters paying by cash across all fare bands in year 2008 fare revision exercise with effect from 1st October 2008. The good news is that transfer rebates are also going to increase from the current 25 cents to 40 cents. In addition, there is going to be a new fare band of $1.67 for commuters who are travelling more than 35.5 fare stages.
What about the distance based fares? I guess I can wait for next year fare revision exercise for this news.

Extension of service 23, Shortening of service 7

Click on the posters to view the enlarged version.

Fantasy Route Changes.
Service 23 will be extended from Tampines to Pasir Ris, following similarily to service 7's route. While that happens, service 7 will be shortened to ply between Bedok - Clementi.

The extension of service 23 is aimed to provide a quick link to town at Tampines and Pasir Ris areas. In the past, taking service 7 from these areas to town is very time consuming. In addition, with the extension of service 23, a direct link is established between Tampines, Pasir Ris to Temasek Polytechnic.

Update:
1. Fantasy routes have been bulleted for easy differentiation between road names and landmarks for bus stops.

Quick Update

Lectures have commenced but not the tutorials. Everything starts slow for the first week. As soon as my tutorial for the English module starts in the second week, I am beginning to feel that the pace has started to accelerate "exponentially". Several assignements have already been given out for this modules and hence I begin to ruminate whether more will be coming for the other modules in the third week which all the tutorials are commencing.

In conclusion, I have to be mentally prepared.

Fantasy Route change 974A

Service 974A will be amended not to ply Lim Chu Kang Rd with effect from 23 August 2008 as it seems impractical to ply the sector with low demand.

Serivce 115 not withdrawn.

I just checked at the SBS Transit website just now. Service 115 timetables, route details are still available whereas for service 68, they have been taken out. I guess most probably service 115 is not withdrawn.

Fantasy Route Change 28

Click on the poster to view the enlarged version.
Fantasy Route Change 28. Service 28 will be serving Bedok Nth Ave 4 and Simei Ave instead of Tampines Ave 1 and Bedok Reservoir Rd. This fantasy route amendment is aimed to improve links in Bedok Nth Ave 4 which is only served by service 17. This allows a direct link from Bedok Nth Ave 4 to Bedok, Kembangan, Eunos, Paya Lebar areas. This will be with effect from 17th August 2008.

Service 28 is chosen to be amended is because service 67 duplicates it from Paya Lebar all the way to Tampines Ave 1. Therefore, service 67 can be treated as a substitute service from Paya Lebar to Tampines Ave 1. In addition, with my amended service 18, residents living at Tampines Ave 9 area already have a direct link from Tampines Ave 9 to Bedok Reservoir, Tampines Ave 1. Therefore, service 28 in my opinion should be amended to create more links elsewhere and to reduce duplication oif the route along with my amended service 18.

Time for school

After nearly 2 years of slacking, with my brains rotting, tomorrow marks the beginning of gear 1 of my left brain. More intellectual thinking will be entailed from me from tomorrow onwards all the way lasting for 4 years.

O week was a time for me to get mentally prepared for the arduous journey ahead of me plus the time for me to find out and share with my peers more about timetables, bidding modules and other administrative stuffs. Till now, I am still at a loss regarding about tutorial timetables.

9th August 2008 was National Day and a day that Singapore has turned 43 this year. But to me, it was more to that. It was a last day for fun and play. My friends and my cousins plus my brother and I went for several rounds of DOTA lasting for a couple of hours. Though, I lost most of the rounds, I gained some insights to several heroes. And I have noticed two things. NO ONE WAS PICKING AN INTELLIGENCE BASED HERO FOR THE ENTIRE DAY and ONLY 2 INTELLIGENCE HEROES WAS RANDOMLY PICKED IN ONE OF THE ROUNDS. Geomancer and Viper appeared for most of the rounds that we played and I was rather sick of playing against them.

So back to O week, it was a week of fun plus mental preparedness for the university journey ahead. I regret that I was unable to stay over for two nights because of my deferment of MOB Briefing scheduled on 15th August 2008 plus a secondary reason of mosquitoes inhibiting in Lecture Theatres. I could see them hovering around my uncovered legs, seeking for FRESH BLOOD. And yes, congratulations that I got sunburnt at my neck area during the Sentosa outing. Perhaps these will form memorable memories of O week and lastly of course, I get to know many friends in O week. Most important of all, I have learnt how to find lost 10 cent coins effectively (an OG game about the missing 10 cent coin).

So to end, it's time for school tomorrow.

Fantasy Route Change service 18

Fantasy route amendment to service 18
Service 18 will be amended to ply Pasir Ris - Bedok (loop) instead of Tampines. It will ply new areas like Tampines Ave 9, Pasir Ris St 52 and Pasir Ris Dr 3. The aim of the amendment is to provide links from Pasir Ris new town to Tampines Ave 9 (28, 29, 293).
